Coober Pedy is a town in northern South Australia. Driving from Uluru, and we passed Alice Spring, and we stopped at Coober pedy. It's a special town full of dessert and dirt. It might seems like a very poor city at first glance.
By the time we visited there, we took day tour. The coach drove us around the town, telling us the history and life style here. Most of the house were built underground. Not much houses were build on the ground or with second floor. The deeper the better. The reason behind it was the heat!
Most of the time during whole year was almost over 40 degrees, in order to prevent the heat, houses were built underground. The deeper the room is the cooler it is. Even the church was built underground!
Sometimes it seems a bit scary because the darkness in the room, sometimes it seems a bit strange to live underground. Sometimes it's funny!
It's is a very interesting and special place on earth. Worth to give it a try! However, before coming here, be prepared for the heat, be prepared for the dirt, be prepared for the.....CHILL?
Coober pedy-a very special place that might seems a bit poor, seems a bit strange, seems a bit spacious. It's a historical spot that well preserved in South Australia.
